Windows of Opportunity A $1000 Environmental Education Grant for NC Teachers

With limited funding from school districts, it can be difficult for teachers to carry out all of their initiatives and goals throughout the school year. Fortunately, there are numerous grant programs to help assist those who need additional funds. For teachers who are particularly interested in environmental education, Windows of Opportunity offers up to $1000 per teacher or classroom between January and June. This is a grant directed towards those who have unique ideas on how to promote the protection of natural resources, environmental stewardship, and an appreciation for the natural environment surrounding their students.

NC Beautiful, a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing programs to foster involvement in protecting and preserving North Carolina’s environment, funds Windows of Opportunity. According to ncbeautiful.org, the organization was chartered in 1967 and created as part of Governor Dan K. Moore’s initiative to not only appreciate the variety of landscapes and natural resources in the state, but also to use those elements to foster bene ts for all North Carolinians. Since 1999, NC Beautiful has provided teachers with the tools and resources they need to carry out their ideas for environmental education.

Submissions for Windows of Opportunity are accepted July 1st through November 30th. Application evaluations take place in December and winners are announced in January. For more information on eligibility requirements, visit ncbeautiful.org.
