In the 2017 NFL Draft The Chicago Bears picked Mitchell Trubisky from The University of North Carolina over Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes, two more viable and feasible prospects. Bears fans and NFL fans were confused about why Trubisky became the Bears franchise quarterback. Trubisky silenced some doubters as he earned a pro bowl berth in 2018 and led the Bears to one NFC North title. He eventually left Chicago for Buffalo to learn how to “properly quarterback” under Brian Daboll and Sean Mcdermott who made Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills quarterback their franchise quarterback. Trubisky called it a “gap year” and he learned a lot.
In the meantime, the Pittsburgh Steelers hired offensive coordinator Matt Canada and they went 14-2 in the 2021 NFL Season and lost in the wildcard game to the Kansas City Chiefs. Roethlisberger retired and the question the Steelers organization and fans asked is who’d replace his shoes as the franchise quarterback. Trubisky signed a two-year deal but was shocked to learn that Kenny Pickett of The University of Pittsburgh was drafted and would eventually start over him halfway through the season. Despite Trubisky’s disappointment he recently was praised by Pro Football Focus as the Steelers best offseason signing last offseason. The organization is highly respected, and this is a testament to his intangibles that he can show again this year.
