With the sixth pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, the New York Giants selected Duke University Quarterback Daniel Jones, who was born and raised in North Carolina and graduated with a degree in economics from Duke in 2018. His first breakout game for the Giants came in his rookie year, where he threw five touchdown passes against Washington and earned the nickname “Danny Dimes.” In his rookie year, he set three NFL records: “First rookie to have three games with four touchdown passes and no interceptions, the first player to have 300-plus passing yards, 2-plus touchdown passes, and 70-plus rushing yards (including no interceptions) in a post-season playoff game and the most passing touchdowns in a single game by a rookie quarterback: 5 (December 22, 2019, vs. Washington Redskins) (tied with four others). He also set thirteen records at the quarterback position for the Giants. Now, the Giants and Jones’s relationship is at a place where the franchise must ask if they want to pay him or Saquon Barkley, who many see as the face of the Giants franchise. Many believe Jones will get paid close to his asking price of $45 million, and Barkley will get franchise tagged by the Giants. However, no matter what happens, Jones has proven himself as a viable and feasible starting quarterback in the NFL, as the records he’s set and broken are evidence of that.
