Former Tar Heel Coby White Making An Impact In Chicago

Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, Coby White’s one of the NBA’s best young players. White was a top high school player in North Carolina, finishing his career as the top prep scorer in state history. He played high school basketball at the Greenfield School in Wilson, North Carolina, and scored 3,573 points, becoming the all-time leading scorer in North Carolina’s basketball history. At the end of his senior season, White was named North Carolina Mr. Basketball as the state’s top high school player and the 2018 USA Today’s North Carolina Player of the Year. In addition, White was named to the 2018 McDonald’s All-American Game alongside fellow UNC signee Nassir Little and nominated to the MaxPreps All-America first team.

Despite playing college basketball for only one season for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he was one of the best players averaging sixteen points a game, four assists, and four rebounds. In addition, he had one steal a game and would be named second-team all-ACC and the ACC all-freshman team for the 2018-19 NCAA season. With the seventh pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls selected White, and he had a great rookie year as he was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Recently, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan said: “He’s playmaking. He’s passing. He’s driving. He’s making good decisions. He’s defending. He’s playing two ways,” Donovan said. “Whether or not he misses or makes shots, it doesn’t make a difference. He’s impacting winning.” As free agency approaches for Coby White, it’s clear the Chicago Bulls have an easy decision to make regarding whether or not to keep the former Tar Heel.
