When people think of the Cleveland Browns, they think about Otto Graham, Paul Brown, Joe Thomas, and Jim Brown. Jim Brown is seen by many as the most excellent running back in NFL history, and understandably so. Brown was a nine-time pro bowler and all-pro, a three-time MVP, an NFL champion who led the NFL in rushing yards eight times and led the NFL in rushing touchdowns five times. Brown’s excellence off the field was synonymous with his excellence on the field, as he was an actor and human rights activist. One of the most iconic photos in NFL history is NBA legends Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabar sitting with Brown and Muhammad Ali as they supported Ali’s protest of his getting drafted by the US Army for the Vietnam War.

This event was known as the Cleveland Summit, which was significant because it was a significant turning point for the athlete’s role in society, one of the most important civil rights acts in sports history, and a predecessor of the 21st-century protest movement initiated by Colin Kaepernick. Brown had many off-the-field legal problems, but fortunately, they aren’t as well known as what he accomplished on and off the field, especially for Black Americans to attain equality in the US. Rest in Peace, Mr. Brown, and thank you for everything.

In 2017, Jayston Tatum was a 2017 ACC All-Freshman Team member and made third team all-ACC. However, Tatum only played for Duke in Durham, North Carolina, for one season, where he averaged seventeen points a game, seven rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block a game. The Missouri native’s phenomenal time at Durham was so impressive that the Boston Celtics drafted him in the first round of the NBA draft, using the third overall pick to draft Tatum. Since then, Tatum’s been a four-time all-star, an all-star game MVP, and, most importantly, an Eastern Conference Championship winner. Unfortunately, the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown-led Celtics lost to the Warriors in the NBA Finals last year.

Tatum has been one of the best players in the league since drafted by the Celtics and is only getting better at twenty-five. The Boston Celtics recently beat the Atlanta Hawks in six games to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals and are currently playing the Joel Embiid-led Philadelphia 76ers in hopes of going to the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is tied at one game apiece for the 76ers and the Celtics. However, many are saying it’s no thanks to Tatum. Instead, many say Tatum had a poor performance by his standards by putting up seven rebounds, seven points, and three assists in nineteen minutes played. This is an unfair criticism as it was a dominant team win for the Celtics, with all starting and all bench players contributing what was necessary to secure a dominant win against the Joel Embiid-led 76ers, who have the league MVP in Embiid. The former Duke Blue Devil is used to unfair criticism and won’t be fazed by it as the Celtics are poised to make a deep run this postseason. The other takeaway from this story is that basketball in North Carolina will continue to flourish in Chapel Hill and Durham thanks to players like Tatum, who are as hard-working as they are talented.

Vince Carter is among the most extraordinary University of North Carolina basketball players. However, when people think about Tar Heel greatness, Carter, James Worthy, and Michael Jordan are the names that come up when you think of their dominant time playing at Chapel Hill and in the NBA. Recently, former Eleven-time NBA Champion head coach Phil Jackson gave a strong take on Carter’s career and why he never won a title during his playing days. Jackson was on legendary music producer Rick Rubin’s podcast and asked Rubin: Did you ever see a player that you thought could be Michael, could be Kobe, but for whatever reason, it just never came together? Like you saw the promise, but it didn’t happen? Jackson answered: Yeah, there’s a couple. There are a couple of players that were actual contemporaries of theirs. Carter, Vince Carter is one of them. And he was outstanding. And he won the dunk contest. And you know, he had a long career and played until forty, but he didn’t have that x-factor.”

If there’s anything that looks like a shocking opinion but isn’t, it’s Jackson’s opinion of Carter. Carter carried mediocre Toronto Raptor teams for a long time and needed better help to win a title in Toronto. Jackson says Carter doesn’t have the “X-factor,” which every former NBA head coach who has had considerable success says about a legendary player. Specifically, a player that was on poorly constructed rosters. Why? Because the point Jackson is making in a roundabout way is that he’ll never reveal his personal opinion of Carter. From a professional perspective, he’s saying Carter didn’t have what it takes to win a title because of the incompetence of the Toronto Raptors organization.

In the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, with the thirty-seventh pick, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Giovanni Bernard, who played running back at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bernard’s time at Chapel Hill was impressive, as he was first-team All-ACC back-to-back years in 2011 and 2012, ACC offensive player of the year in 2012, third-team all-American in 2012, and many other honors. Bernard was impressive in Cincinnati and Tampa Bay, the two places he played in his career. He won a Superbowl in Tampa Bay with notable teammates like Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, and Tom Brady when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were called the “Tompa Bay Buccaneers” about Tom Brady leaving New England for Tampa Bay as a free agent.

Bernard was a third-down back who was integral to the Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl in 2021 and great in the passing game and a great pass catcher. Bernard announced his retirement from the NFL on Instagram yesterday, citing personal reasons and his desire to spend time with his family. Bernard was among the most underrated and effective running backs for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his NFL Career. He forged his legend in college at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Although however, North Carolina is known as a basketball state with the North Carolina Vs. Duke rivalry, football legends like Greg Ellis, Donald Bly, Julius Peppers, and Lawrence Taylor played in the state and, specifically, at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. So, athletic excellence will always be alive and well, not only in basketball but also in football.

It was a historic moment at the 2023 NFL Draft as the Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young as the first overall pick. The young quarterback is seen by many as a potential franchise player, and the Panthers were eager to draft him given everything he accomplished playing for the University of Alabama. Young has been working towards this moment his entire life, and now he can prove himself on the biggest stage in football. Nick Saban is accepted by many as the greatest coach in college football history, with seven national championships, ten SEC championships, fifteen SEC Western Divisions won, and turning the University of Alabama into the premier college to the NFL pipeline.

There’s no debating his claim to be the greatest college coach ever because, to add to that, Saban’s produced four Heisman winners, wide receiver Devonta Smith, running backs Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry, and quarterback Bryce Young. Young is evident in Saban’s growth as a coach because, for so long, Saban was an ardent defensive-minded head coach, but as football changed, Saban had to change with it and become a better offensive coach. Bryce Young isn’t just indicative of Saban’s growth as a head coach and a Saban product but also a product of great parenting, hard work, dedication, and his own man. Young has a chance to show this to the Carolina Panthers as they drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but if anyone can rise to the challenge, it’s this Heisman-winning quarterback.

Russell Westbrook is one of the NBA’s greatest players ever. The 2016-2017 regular season MVP is a nine-time all-star, a two-time scoring champion, a three-time league leader in assists, and has accomplished a list of feats that are too long to list. But, unfortunately, Russell Westbrook is known for his off-court controversies just as much as his on-court brilliance and, once again, has gotten into a heated off-court debate with a Phoenix Suns fan who called him “West-brick.” The team Westbrook currently plays for, the Los Angeles Clippers, is playing a playoff elimination series against the Phoenix Suns. Westbrook had a bad game where he made three shots on nineteen attempts in a game-one win against the Suns. The situation didn’t escalate between Westbrook and the fan as there was a heavy security presence when Westbrook told the fan to “watch your mouth (expletive).”

New Yorker Eli Litvak said, “Russ is a soft guy who can’t win in the playoffs even though he’s as great as he is.” Westbrook’s opponents in this current playoff series spoke glowingly of him recently, saying: “People [are] always going to criticize when you’re successful and doing your thing for this long,” Durant said. “Somebody’s [going to] always find something they don’t like about you, but Russ has been resilient his whole life. He comes to work, doesn’t say much, just come hoop. When he retires, people are [going to] tell the truth about how they feel about his game. Right now, the fun thing to do is to make a joke out of Russ, but how he’s been playing since he got with the Clippers shows everybody who he is. “I feel like the only people that do that are the people who don’t know basketball and don’t know what it’s like to compete,” Paul said. “I know, for me, Russ is one of my closest friends, and so, people that do that, talk crazy, probably wish they could be in that situation.” In the past three games with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, Westbrook scored more than twenty-seven points, had 5+ rebounds, 4+ assists, and at least a block. These stat lines are evidence of Westbrook’s fantastic talent and why he’s polarizing, as he wasn’t able to will his team to a win and gave ammunition to people like Litvak worldwide.

Soccer’s popularity has been increasing in the US thanks to the dominance of the US Womens National Soccer Team and to Christian Pulisic, a hot commodity who’s been dominating for the US Men’s Team but for franchises in Western Europe. Pulisic is one of the best players in Western Europe. He started his career playing for one of the best franchises in Germany, Borussia Dortmund in Dortmund, Germany, and Chelsea in London, and he’s already won trophies in both countries. His career will likely be a storied one when it’s all said and done if he continues playing at the high level he is and has been since the start of his career.

Ryan Reynolds is one of Hollywood’s biggest names and is a successful businessman, as three of his businesses are some of the most successful in the world. One of Reynolds’s successful business ventures is Wrexham FC, a soccer franchise in Wales that is a household name to many sports fans thanks to Reynolds’s Hollywood fame. Reynolds’s Wrexham Red Dragons will face Pulisic’s Chelsea Blues on July 19, 2023, at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, used for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill men’s football team. Most importantly, the game will be great for Pulisic, Reynolds, all players, owners, and fans.

Since COVID-19 hit, many Americans left California and New York for Texas and Florida, especially during the pandemic. Specifically, Americans have left for Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte, San Antonio, Orlando, and Raleigh. Those ten cities experienced the most enormous population growth from 2020-2022. In 2021, nearly 366,000 people moved to North Carolina, according to the US—Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS). Most individuals – 324,500 or 89% of all in-migrants – moved to North Carolina from another state. Many are moving to the state because the economy in North Carolina is strong and growing. The state has seen immense job growth, and the unemployment rate is at a historic low. The average wage for workers in the state has also increased.

Healthcare in North Carolina is easily accessible, with many options for residents. There are many medical facilities throughout the state and many private practices. No matter where you live in the state, you should be able to find a healthcare provider that meets your needs.
Many different types of health insurance plans are also available in North Carolina. As a result, residents can choose a plan that fits their budget and provides the necessary coverage. In addition, public and private insurance options are open, so everyone can find a plan that works for them. The map pictured shows why Americans are moving to the highlighted red state in the USA.

Paolo Banchero is one of the most well-known Duke players in the school’s history, and like many former Blue Devils, he’s already thriving in the NBA. Banchero is a finalist for the NBA’s Rookie of The Year award as the former first overall pick for the Orlando Magic has been dominating in the NBA as much as a rookie possibly can. In 72 games played for the Magic, he averaged twenty points a game, one block, one steal, four assists, and seven rebounds.

Unsurprisingly to Duke and college basketball fans, he was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2022, first team all ACC his rookie year at Duke, first team all ACC, and Consensus Second Team All-American. Banchero had a chance to be a unanimous Rookie of the Year but was snubbed by voter Andy Larsen. Undoubtedly, Banchero’s upset, but if anything, this shows Duke’s excellence in college basketball and the excellence of those who’ll be a part of one of college basketball’s best programs in Durham, North Carolina.

North Carolina is the premier state for basketball in the USA, with Duke and the University of North Carolina being historic rivals, NBA legends like James Worthy, Vince Carter, Grant Hill, JJ Reddick, and of course, the one and only Michael Jordan attending these schools. However, one of the most underrated greatest players in Duke history is North Carolina native and current New Orleans Pelican and former Laker Brandon Ingram, who is making significant strides in his NBA career. In his one year at Duke, he averaged 17 points a game, one block, two assists, and seven rebounds, earning the title of ACC Rookie of the Year in 2016 and an Associated Press Honorable Mention in 2016.

In his NBA career, he’s a one-time all-star, Most Improved Player in 2020, was the All-Rookie Second Team in 2017, and won the rising stars challenge in 2017 and 2018. Ingram has grown tremendously since his time as a Laker, and the Pelican’s win over Minnesota on April 9 is evidence of that, as in 42 minutes, he scored 42 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and one block. The North Carolina native who went on to play for Duke is showing not only his growth but also that the state of basketball in the state of North Carolina is alive and well.
